Coach Dustin Nelson brings over two decades of experience to the high school basketball scene, with 21 total seasons at the high school level, including 13 leading varsity girls’ teams and five seasons coaching boys. Over the course of his varsity coaching career he has been a part of 186 wins, while being a part of multiple championship teams, including three sectional titles, one regional title, five holiday tournament championships, two conference tournament championships, and one conference round-robin championship. Coach Nelson is passionate about player development and embraces the challenge of building and rebuilding competitive programs. His focus is on continuity offenses, man to man pressure defense, and teaching athletes to understand the why behind what we do as a program.

Basketball has been a significant part of my life as a player and mentor. Throughout my high school career, I played under Coach Bechtold and Coach Nelson, where I developed my skills and passion for the game. For the past four years, I’ve had the opportunity to watch my daughter grow tremendously within the program—not just as a basketball player, but as a person. During this time, I’ve also been actively involved in the program, assisting with coaching and keeping Coach B organized, while continuing my love for the game by helping the next generation of athletes succeed.

My passion for basketball has been a defining force in my life, shaping my character and providing invaluable life lessons. From the exhilaration of playing on the court to the fulfillment of coaching others, basketball has been a source of joy and personal growth. Coaching, in particular, allows me to share my love for the game. guiding players to develop their skills and embrace the values of the sport. This dual role of player and coach enriches my connection to basketball, reinforcing its significance in my life.

We were so sorry for the sudden loss of our beloved Coach, Coach Paul Miller who passed on March 15th, 2025. He was such a huge asset to the Rebel program for the past 4 years. Everything that Paul did for our program was with the most intensity. From new drills to everyday basics, the kids knew that Paul's expectations of them was to give it their all.  We will always cherish the time that God allowed us to have with him. We have no doubt that the best way to honor Paul's memory is to play basketball, with the 4 E's! 

Coach Doug Nelson has coached for over 25 years as a Middle School Coach, Varsity Assistant
Coach and Varsity Head Coach. Doug is currently the Head Girls Basketball Coach at South Central High School. He has accumulated over 200 varsity wins and 6 sectional championships at the varsity level.

Coach Nelson takes pride in developing players to be as good as they want to be and help them reach their goals in the classroom and on the basketball court. He has assisted many student-athletes to the next level of college basketball.
He has also served as a representative with the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association as a
District Representative. He's worked with the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association as a pollster.
Coach Nelson spent his first two years coaching at the NCAA Division One level as a
student-coach while a student at Valparaiso University with the women's basketball program.
Doug concentrates on the fundamentals of the game, while developing individual and team skills needed to be a productive asset to any basketball program.

Coach was also instrumental as an assistant coach helping the Wheeler boys' basketball team earn a conference title under the leadership of Tom Johnson.
